Petros Louca, XR Developer and Researcher at KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence, University of Cyprus
Petros Louca has a Master of Science degree in “Media Production and Distribution” from Lancaster University, UK and has been a member of the University of Cyprus (UCY) for more than 23 years.
He is the Manager of Applications Development Sector of the University of Cyprus (UCY) and among his IT multi-disciplinary work involvement, he has extensive experience in the utilization of education technology for student learning engagement improvement, through web tools and XR experiences, by developing educational game-based applications in Unity3D, for learning, interaction, and intercultural collaboration as well as employing a diversity of packages and tools, based on research and pedagogical objectives, as part of multiple EU projects that he has been participating.
He creates mobile applications, that produce immersive interactive environments, through the projection and animation of artificial 3D model elements and NPC avatars, as well as 360 videos/images, superimposed to the real world, enriched with audiovisual effects, and are experienced in both smartphones and lightweight AR Glasses.
The applications also feature the implementation of chromakey and photogrammetry techniques, including conversational animated spatial AI-driven avatars with Meta Oculus Lipsync, avatar’s body anatomy customizations, facial expressions, and real-time conversation through STT & TTS techniques, for deeper immersive and lively experience, utilizing the Google Firebase database for producing real-time learning analytics and generating score boarding of participating partner institutions.
